Artwork Description

We would walk through the mountains, we were guided by the moonlight and when we reach the top. We would wait for the morning to come. The sun’s first rays touched country and began warming the nights chill.

Artist Bio

Kahlilla Rigby has a strong connection to Country, which encompasses the reciprocal relationship between ancestral land, spirit and seas. When she is looking for inspiration for what to paint, " I sit and listen to Country, through the rattling of the leaves or the sounds of the animals scurrying around."
Kahlilla’s landscape watercolour portfolio is composed of a series of lucid and spontaneous works that are inspired by the beauty of Country and are interwoven with rich, warm hues, ochres and earthly tones.
These are juxtaposed with her illustrations of native flora. These compositional artworks encompass the meaning of “Blush of Australia”, whereby these paintings epitomise the strength and resilience of Australia`s diverse native flora. Kahlilla also has a textural acrylic collection where she aims to create a sensory experience that captures the feeling of being on Country. Many of her paintings are inspired by visions, stories and ancestral history.

She endeavours to create a profound emotive relationship between her art and her audience. To evoke a deep connection and admiration of Wurundjeri Land and Australia's diverse plants and animals. Furthermore, to awaken Australian people to protect Country, land animals and flora.
