CAMPFIRE

While the country was burning, my home town being one of the worst-hit, I was inspired by memories of camping. I'd go camping often as a kid and have always felt that there was never anything quite like sitting around a campfire among the gumtrees, beneath the stars, toasting marshmallows; and chatting about nothing late into the night.
It was this memory and the colours I see this country in, earthy gum forest tones that inspired this painting. I wanted to create a piece that reminds us of this country's natural beauty, and the simplicity and magic that fire can bring in a non-horrific way. The campfire is a wonderful thing and just like getting back on a bike we remember 'fire', not as the enemy.

Kalie’s keen interest in psychology sparked the idea for a comprehensive and thought-provoking body of work. She works in oil and paints traditional-style landscapes and clouds amongst the odd still life or portrait. Her work is predominantly a rebellion against the societal stigma around Mental Health. Driven by a connection between psychology and colour, her thoughtfully curated palettes and cloud formations explore curious feelings and states of being that are often not discussed. Her work celebrates the beauty of human diversity while advocating for understanding and healing.

Kalie skillfully combines the appeal of clouds with internal exploration inviting viewers to embark on an introspective journey of their own mind. Kalie often displays her work in ornate gold gilded frames as a physical representation of the mask we all often wear when dealing with strange feelings and mental health. Ultimately, Kalie’s art is an invitation to explore the intricate tapestry of human emotion and find solace in shared experiences, simultaneously encouraging conversations that lead to healing, growth and societal acceptance while aiding the viewer in feeling less alone in their experience.
