Returning to Art full-time after a very long hiatus (Senior years ago), has been sublime - a reprieve from the fast pace of city life.
Karen's art is playful, intuitive and unplanned. There is a call and response - to the canvas, marks, feelings, and the environment. There is a sense of place - of her surrounds - the mountains, valleys, and creeks. Some days there is lightness, other days a little darker with themes around climate and the effect of human activity on our natural environment.
Karen loves colour and uses Acrylic together with mixed media, as these mediums help create vibrant, expressive, malleable and forgiving constructions.
Karen is a self taught artist and is currently painting in a weekly figurative class at the Brisbane Institute of Art. She regularly attends local and international online workshops. Karen has won some local prizes for both figurative and landscape paintings most recently a Finalist in Lethbridge 20000 in June 2022.
