Having travelled 4000 kilometres to the northernmost tip of Australia , Cape York, I was absolutely delighted to stumble across a flock of the notoriously shy Palm Cockatoo - Australia’s largest cockatoo - feeding on fallen native almonds. The flock of a dozen individuals was watched over carefully by their biggest male who I affectionately nick-named ‘Harry’. Harry watched me as I took my reference photos from a few metres away but never showed any concern for my proximity to his family. What a privilege to spend time amongst these extraordinary and gentle giants!
