Artwork Description

The sakura of Japan are known around the world for their radiant, delicate and transient beauty They are more than simply beautiful cherry blossom trees. They are tied to Japan’s history, culture and identity. Originally used to divine the year’s harvest, sakura came to embody wabi-sabi philosophy and shinto ideals of impermanence, hope and renewal. After spotting this one down in Victoria not only did I want to paint it but was also inspired by the spiritual connection with life it has.

Artist Bio

Karen Jaques is a Grief Counselor, a path she followed after experiencing many losses and challenges in her own life. Her passion for life drives her to be bold, brave and courageous believing that adversity can become a path that links us back to our authentic selves, and strengthen our capacity to get us through. That passion for life comes through in Karen’s approach to her creative work as she seizes the moment and expresses with hands rather than brushes. She captures the lightness of life often balanced with the dark in bright and bold compositions that serve to remind us that nature and our surrounds will always ground us spiritually, and emotionally if we are open.
"I am Karen Jaques, a free-spirited Australian expressionist working from Studio Shambahla. My signature hand-painted floral and abstract series are created entirely by manipulating rich acrylic textures with my hands, palms, and spatulas..."
