Original Artwork's Description

The tree spirits series is an ongoing project started in 2004, at an Artist-in-Residency in my native Austria.

It was time to take a closer look at nature- after painting big sweeping vistas and landscapes for years, I developed an interest in the close ups of the rocks and trees that make the landscape.
Over the years, this has resulted in many a painting of bark and moss, rocks and lichen.

Refined in 2006 at the Artist in residency program at Arthur Boyd's Bundanon,
I have since renamed the series " Tree spirits" and am concentrating mainly on the bark of the ever beautiful Eucalyptus tree.

Artist Bio

Born in Munich, Germany 1973.
Lived in Austria, Germany, Japan and New Zealand before settling in Melbourne, Australia in 2001.

Career in the arts spanning 20 years, with exhibitions both nationally and internationally.

The paintings are informed by thorough research into the changing face of the landscape and the impact of climate change, introduction of weeds and non native fauna and flora.
The work focuses on the change in the environment - thus raising the question, how do we respond emotionally? how do we respond practically to these challenges?
It is this juxtaposition that the artist is most interested in, informed by psychology, politics, religion and science.
