Ilparpa Tree Shadow II

My paintings are an ongoing examination of the relationship humans have with their surrounding landscape.
This painting shows the tracks left behind by visitors to the Ilparpa Claypans, located south of the Western MacDonnell Ranges in the Northern Territory are home to a fragile ecosystem and provide a sanctuary for local wildlife. The clay pans are listed as a ‘Site of National Botanical Significance’ due to the presence of significant ephemeral plants and a wide diversity of plant species and communities. It is also registered as an Aboriginal Sacred Site, that is an important cultural place, especially for Arrernte Custodians.

Career in the arts spanning 20 years, with exhibitions both nationally and internationally.

The paintings are informed by thorough research into the changing face of the landscape and the impact of climate change, introduction of weeds and non native fauna and flora.
The work focuses on the change in the environment - thus raising the question, how do we respond emotionally? how do we respond practically to these challenges?
It is this juxtaposition that the artist is most interested in, informed by psychology, politics, religion and science.
