Artwork Description

Photograph on paper

Signed and numbered on the front.

This image was captured in January 2020. I travelled to Ethiopia to photograph the people who live in the Omo Valley in Southern Ethiopia. We arrived in this Dassanech village early in the morning and the people in the village were beginning their day. A young boy has his role looking after the donkeys in the village.

This image of a single pink calla lily is captured against black background. A long exposure and studio lighting was used to capture the form of the lily and the trail of movement with the camera hand held. The trails of movement in this image echo the form of the lily and create shapes resembling a heart. In this image with muted yellow and gold tones, ginkgo leaves tumble creating trails against the dark background. A sense of the passage of time as leaves fall in autumn is created using a long exposure. In this black and white image, ginkgo leaves tumble creating trails against the white background. A sense of the passage of time as leaves fall in autumn is created using a long exposure. This image has a painterly quality and graphic feel. This bunch of calla lilies was photographed against a black background to add emphasis to the colours and form of these flowers.
