Artist Bio

When I consider the beginning in my journey as an artist, it is inextricably linked to my childhood. I was encouraged and supported to paint, draw and to view the world with inquisitive eyes. I completed my degree in Visual Arts majoring in painting and drawing in Adelaide, South Australia. Over time, I became interested in the medium of photography and continue to intuitively draw upon my painting background in the creation of my work. I am a member of the AIPP and recognised as a Master Photographer within this professional organisation. I am based in Adelaide with my work taking me to many regions in the state of South Australia.

In my work, I am aiming to capture opposing themes and the relationship between the two. Strength and vulnerability are often explored in both my portrait and landscape imagery. In my portrait work, I aim to create images which elicit a visceral response from the viewer as they connect with the humanity of my subjects. Exploring ideas around fragility, loss and vulnerability are themes that continue to motivate my process. I aim to find a balance between the metaphorical darkness and light. In my landscape work, I capture the transient nature of life and the passage of time. I search for landscapes which challenge traditional concepts of beauty and use these places to reveal the unobserved in our everyday surroundings. My images of the landscape often explore the theme of human influence and impact on the environment.

I aim to create haunting images which are both poignant and evocative. I constantly experiment and explore new techniques in order to best capture my subject. My inspiration comes from the experience of living life and by making myself vulnerable through engagement and connection with the world. My creative process can be simple or complex depending on the ideas I am exploring and communicating to my audience. I am currenlty enjoying the strength and simplicity of black and white imagery. My hope is that my photographic imagery continues to evolve through ongoing experimentation and acquired technical knowledge.
