A social commentary conceptualising how in current culture, in the search for acceptance, one must "identify" with a particular group based on age, gender, orientation or race, which contrasts with the very real necessity to be collectively connected and how we can reprogram our "us & them" mindset to find the neutral zone.

Artwork Description
Artist Bio
From a young age Karen (WiZ, as she became known) excelled at art. She was top of her class on many occasions and won her school’s art prize three years running. With encouragement from her senior art teacher, she followed her artistic dream and went to university to study Industrial Design. After successfully completing her degree Karen worked as a designer for more than a decade. Then later, whilst working as a freelance artist, a cartoonist friend impressed by her small self-portrait, inspired her to rediscover painting.
Artist Statement:
The capacity of art to embody a thought or consciousness is why I make art. My art is how I communicate my perceptions and realisations. I do not limit myself to a specific palette or style thus, each piece is a unique representation of my mindfulness at the time it was created. I very much enjoy the challenge of working to a theme. A theme can determine the way I work and the colours I choose. My aspiration as an artist is to attempt to seize the viewers' attention and then draw them in for closer consideration.
