Artwork Description

Set of two painted together - a diptych. Each piece measures 79 x 79 cm framed, approximately 79 x 168cm as a pair (with a 10cm gap).

Layered washes, naturally sourced textures, and fluid marks echo the natural rhythms of water, wind, and earth — not as literal depictions, but as felt sensations. Each panel flows into the other, offering a sense of openness, movement, and stillness all at once.

Each piece stands on its own, but together they speak in harmony.

A diptych like Elemental Drift I & II offers a versatile and impactful way to elevate a space. Hung side by side with a small gap between, these works can anchor a large wall—perfect above a sofa, bed, console or in a hallway. In a room with large solo artworks a diptych adds interest.

NOTE: if you'd like to purchase just one of these, not as a pair, please get in touch and I can make a separate listing

Artist Bio

Karin Cutler is a mixed media painter working between Sydney and her rural farm studio on the mid coast NSW. Her work moves between richly textured still life and abstraction, exploring the feeling behind the things that inspire her rather than simply describing them.

It’s never really about the subject.

Whether it’s a handful of blueberries, a weathered vessel or a memory of the ocean, these are simply starting points. Karin is drawn to the calm, familiarity and quiet beauty they leave behind.
Working with layers of paint, ash, charcoal, sand, marble dust and other natural materials, she creates paintings with depth, texture and a restrained, muted palette influenced in part by her Scandinavian heritage.

Inspired by the ocean, bush and rural landscape, her paintings are intended to bring a sense of calm, character and quiet presence to the spaces they inhabit.

I am happy to do commissions based on other pieces. If you'd like to see something on your wall just send me a photo and I will superimpose the painting on your wall.
