Artwork Description

This extra large, original oil painting was inspired by a dramatic storm passing by Meelup Beach, near Dunsborough, one afternoon. My sister was visiting from the UK for the first time and we sat on the sand, by the waters edge, transfixed by the spectacle of lightning, rainbows and dramatic clouds. Not your normal Australian Summer's day at the beach- but certainly a memorable one.

I used Prussian blue glaze and white opaque paint to build a translucent glow with softly blended areas to create the dramatic cloud formations. A palette knife applied the thicker paint to describe the orange rocks.

The painting continues around the side of the canvas, so you don't need to frame it. (But it would fabulous with a dark or natural wood frame)

This striking extra large statement painting would make a dramatic focal point in your room.

Artist Bio

Karina is passionate about paint, and the trees and coastline of the South West of Australia. Born in the UK, she now splits her time between Perth and Yallingup Siding, where she works in her newly built garden studio, in the heart of the area she loves to paint.

Her art process always begins with walking; a daily ritual to calm, uplift and inspire. She uses the time to gather reference material - memorising and recording the ever-changing visual beauty of the coastal and forest landscape, and the sense of well-being it evokes.

The physicality of paint is an important focus in her work, integrating expressive and experimental elements, within the many layers of acrylic and oil paint. Her ongoing research into maximising depth of field, uses a variety of perspective techniques to help create a sense of spaciousness within her compositions.

The resulting vibrant, yet calm, paintings are Karina’s way of celebrating the unique environment of the South West of WA .

Karina’s art practice highlights include presenting the solo exhibition Walk of Wonder: Reflections from the Cape to Cape Track in early 2022 at Gallows Gallery in Perth and being one of the 50 finalists in the 2023 Art2 Life international juried art exhibition, judged by New York gallery owner, Anita Rogers,.

Her work is held in public collections in Australia and private collections throughout Australia, the UK and Canada.
