Granite 2

I hope to capture the spirit of the Australian landscape and share my experience of the natural world through my artwork. I believe that while spending time in nature, we become aware of our own small place in the world, bringing a little perspective into our lives.

Granite 2 is from a series of paintings that explore the dramatic granite landscapes of Girraween National Park in the Granite Belt region of south Queensland.
Slowly eroding landforms, some 240 million years old, contrast with ephemeral seasonal changes in these artworks that reflect on the passage of time. With its flattened perspective, limited palette, and layered shadows, the composition invites a sense of stillness. The strong silhouettes and pared-back forms recall the influence of Japanese woodblock prints.
Like much of my work, Granite 2 reflects a fascination with memory and place, how landscapes linger in the mind long after we've left them behind.
