I hope to capture the spirit of the Australian landscape and share my experience of the natural world through my artwork. I believe that while spending time in nature or when looking at images of nature, we become aware of our own small place in the world, bringing a little perspective into our lives.
Turquioise Sky s one of a new series of paintings ‘Forest Bathing’. The paintings in this series are informed by the coastal lakes and lakeside forests of Arakwal, Bundjalung and Yuraygir National Parks in northern New South Wales.
In recent difficult times, I have visited places that bring me serenity, and these locations feature in my artwork. The forests that grow along the coastal lakes of our region are places of great beauty and tranquillity.
‘Forest bathing’ or Shinrin-Yoku is the Japanese physiological and psychological exercise of taking in the forest atmosphere. Regular exposure to forest environments is proven to be beneficial to our health, lowering blood pressure and anxiety and strengthening the immune system. I hope the viewers of my forest bathing series will experience some of these benefits while viewing my work.
