Artwork Description

'Waterfall of kisses' is a macro view of red roses which glows with a velvety quality and richness of colour that has to be seen in real life, my camera simply cannot capture all the subtle shifts of red!
The painting has a deliberate abstract quality to it, my works are less about the subject and more about the experience - the emotion conveyed within.

I cannot beat this Georgia O'Keeffe quote when describing the inspiration for my paintings:
“Whether the flower or the colour is the focus I do not know. I do know the flower is painted large to convey my experience with the flower – and what is my experience if it is not the colour?”

Part of my Seduction series, this painting oozes sensuality adding beautiful warmth to any room.

Artist Bio

I am an emerging Australian artist and graduate of The School of Art, Australian National University (2014). I love painting roses and abstracts, they're completely different subject matters and they're both my favourite! My paintings are created by the soft application of oil paint in multiple thin layers in a slow meditative process, I love to amplify colour and light to create works evocative of emotion and mood.

In my paintings of roses I aim to capture the fragile ephemerality and diverse beauty of the rose, conveying both a sense of movement and joy as revealed by the curvaceous and billowing petals. These paintings of roses are an unashamed celebration of the feminine sensuality, the strength, and delicate beauty that a rose contains.

Colour has always generated visceral emotions in me, reactions I find endlessly fascinating and something I aim to capture and pass on in my paintings. Capturing the details of a rose is not essential to me, in fact I find the details a distraction from the sensations and emotions that colour within a form arouses. The application of soft, delicate layers of paint allows the texture of the canvas adds to the soft materiality, and the transitions of colour describe the form without unnecessary detail.

I am fortunate to be able to work from my studio in the garden of my home in Bungendore, New South Wales. Living the dream!
