Plastic chairs are a recurring motif in my work, they seem to represent both comfort and nostalgia and also something more repellent and wasteful. They are often used in place of a figure to represent a "human-ness" and all the complexity that goes with that. This painting is an expression of the paralysing fear and powerlessness I feel in the face of the climate catastrophe we have wrought, and the maddening inaction of those who could make the greatest difference.
This painting is on a copper panel, it is braced on the back with a wooden panel. The copper slightly overhangs the wood to create the sensation that it is floating when hung.
