The Girl with the Pearl Earrings

While in the great lockdown of 2020 I decided to pick up my paints to pass the hours, bringing a bit of light and happiness back into my day to day. I did a series of female portraits, depicting what truely happy women look like, not the "Insta" picture perfect women the media depicts. These women have dimples and rolls, gummy teeth and double chins, a true depiction of beautiful, strong women.

This oil painting has a textured undercoat, using bright vibrant colours, painted edges and a matt varnish finish. Signature in the bottom right corner as well as signed on the back.

Creating her whole life and armed with a degree in Costume Design from Wimbledon School of Art, London, Kate starting to focus on painting more during the great lockdown 2020. Finding herself home alone, painting allowed an expressive and creative outlet that helped fill the void of isolation from the world. She quickly discovered a passion for painting, and specifically figurative and portraiture works, focusing on bright bold colour use and strong brush work. Her works take inspiration from the Pop Art, WPAP & Impressionistic movements, experimenting with conveying identity, character, emotion and thoughts.
