Artwork Description

Painted from memories and photographs of my travels through Tokyo, this work captures the overwhelming energy of the city at night β€” the glow of neon signs, crowded streets, sharp contrasts, and the feeling of being completely surrounded by light and movement.

The portrait sits quietly within the chaos, creating a contrast between stillness and the restless city around him. Built up slowly over more than two years, the painting reflects both the intensity of Tokyo and the long, layered process of revisiting a place through memory, colour, and time.

Artist Bio

Creating her whole life and armed with a degree in Costume Design from Wimbledon School of Art, London, Kate starting to focus on painting more during the great lockdown 2020. Finding herself home alone, painting allowed an expressive and creative outlet that helped fill the void of isolation from the world. She quickly discovered a passion for painting, and specifically figurative and portraiture works, focusing on bright bold colour use and strong brush work. Her works take inspiration from the Pop Art, WPAP & Impressionistic movements, experimenting with conveying identity, character, emotion and thoughts.
