Taking Flight

I can't even tell you how much joy this piece has brought me🌟
"Taking Flight" allowed be to be bolder and more playful in my approach to creating an artwork...

A journey beginning with an idea, or rather a feeling: Johnathan Livingston Seagull, (a short book well worth reading if you haven't already)...

Then a simple drawing, followed by wild and energetic mark making with literally whatever I could get my hands on:
graphite powder, charcoal, permanent markers, pastels, china markers...
Following up on that feeling with acrylics, more mark making and finally finishing in oils.

A more satisfying process I have not found!

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Kate creates her art in her Sunshine Coast paradise.
Her studio is nestled between gorgeous Australian beaches and hinterland mountains, surrounded by nature & birdsong.

She begins by creating emotional charcoals; using them as the base for vibrant, juicy and textured mixed media and oil compositions, humming with light, life and joy.
