Artwork Description

'Retreat 14' is an original painting by Kate Wise.
Retreating to a quiet spot under a tree or a hilltop with a view can reinvigorate my creative spark, replenish my energy, and inspire fresh ideas. We don't all have the time or resources to retreat into the healing sanctuary of nature. So I've created this series titled 'Retreat' to give you (and me) beautiful moments of quiet contemplation as your eye wanders over these paintings. 'Retreat 14' harks back to the curving branches of Eugene von Geurard and the open vistas of Arthur Streeton.. Inspired by Clarice Beckett's tonal paintings, my color palette is deliberately muted to evoke a sense of tranquility and peace.

Artist Bio

Kate Wise's acrylic paintings are a celebration of the beauty she finds in nature. Kate plays with scale and negative space and creates sumptuous colour palettes to produce harmonious yet lively compositions. If you need more of these things in your life, welcome, you are in the right place!

Kate is an acrylic painter living on Wadawurrung country just outside Ballarat, Victoria. She says 'nature is an inspiring force' and it drives her creation of calm, feminine and flowing paintings that are original, fresh and lively.

You can enjoy Kate's work as vibrant landscapes, abstracts and florals, but in her current series of works, she is inviting you to delve a little deeper, as she explores the psychological terrain of landscape painting. Kate believes that the capacity to observe the complexities of nature, draw meaning and experience self-growth and renewal, are gifts that painting offers both the artist and the viewer.

Kate has been a full-time artist for 5 years, regularly joins group exhibitions, has won several local art prizes and enjoys participating in local community and public art projects. Kate's work is held in private collections across Australia and overseas.
