Artwork Description

Kate's gum trees, her treasures, offer her endless inspiration. She has used a mix of brush strokes, palette knife and fluid paint pouring to represent the infinite textures of the trunk and branches of this river red gum. Harking back to her gum leaf and blossom paintings, Kate has given equal attention to the white negative spaces that become important shapes and patterns in the composition. There is also a glimmer of gold paint that allows the branching to shine when viewed from different angles. This painting is part of Kate's 'Treasure' series which is her contribution to the long history of tree portraiture. 'Treasure, you're always with me' offers nature inspired contemporary minimalism that is suitable for a large wall.

Artist Bio

Kate Wise's acrylic paintings are a celebration of the beauty she finds in nature. Kate plays with scale and negative space and creates sumptuous colour palettes to produce harmonious yet lively compositions. If you need more of these things in your life, welcome, you are in the right place!

Kate is an acrylic painter living on Wadawurrung country just outside Ballarat, Victoria. She says 'nature is an inspiring force' and it drives her creation of calm, feminine and flowing paintings that are original, fresh and lively.

You can enjoy Kate's work as vibrant landscapes, abstracts and florals, but in her current series of works, she is inviting you to delve a little deeper, as she explores the psychological terrain of landscape painting. Kate believes that the capacity to observe the complexities of nature, draw meaning and experience self-growth and renewal, are gifts that painting offers both the artist and the viewer.

Kate has been a full-time artist for 5 years, regularly joins group exhibitions, has won several local art prizes and enjoys participating in local community and public art projects. Kate's work is held in private collections across Australia and overseas.
