Artwork Description

In "Frida's View," the artist delves into the depths of surrealism to present a landscape that transcends the ordinary and invites the viewer into a realm where reality and imagination intertwine. The painting serves as a homage to the iconic Frida Kahlo, infusing her spirit and symbolism into the very fabric of the canvas. At first glance, the landscape unfolds in a captivating duality of red and green hues, creating a vivid contrast that electrifies the scene. The colours pulsate with an intensity that seems to emanate from the very core of the earth, drawing the viewer deeper into the enigmatic world portrayed. The sky above is veiled in storm clouds, swirling and churning with a tempestuous energy. These ominous formations hint at the turbulent emotions and inner turmoil often associated with Frida Kahlo's life and artistic expression. Yet, amidst the chaos, there is a profound sense of resilience and strength, as if the storm itself is a testament to the enduring spirit of the human soul. Beneath the tumultuous heavens, the earth cracks and fissures, revealing deep scarlet crevices that snake through the landscape like veins of raw emotion. These fissures symbolize the pain and suffering that Frida Kahlo endured throughout her life, yet they also serve as conduits for growth and transformation, as life emerges resiliently from the depths of adversity.

Artist Bio

I'm Kath Harding, a surrealist artist and architect based in Sydney, Australia. Mostly I paint landscapes...but I’m curious about shifting truths and perceptions, the places where the ordinary becomes distorted, and the extraordinary arises from the mundane. These thresholds tell the stories of our collective truths.

influenced by surrealists and the diverse tapestry of Australian painters, I am a storyteller, weaving visual narratives that defy logic and embrace the irrational. Each brushstroke or manipulation of materials is a deliberate act to disrupt the conventional, opening thresholds to the fantastical. I seek profound insight into the limits of our uniquely human condition.

To me, there is nothing more beautiful than this act of revelation. The opportunity to share this journey from fragility to opportunity for growth with others is truly priceless.
