Artwork Description

My still life ‘Royal Granny Smith’ I wanted to portray an apple in a high regard. I utilised the candle pedestal as a moral pedestal. I furthered this agenda with regard to the floral pendant attached to the apple which may act as its royal jewel or emblem.

People don’t usually associate apples with royalty. This depiction was inspired by ‘A White Bird Flies In The Mist, A Black Bird Flies In The Night,
A Woman Walks, Wild And Free,
She Is Not Afraid To Die’, 2008, by Nell (slide 27). The use of creating a unique perception of a ‘predictable’ object through other objects, colours, or shadows in Nell’s case.
