Sidewalk Pigeon #2
When we were kids a breeding pair of pigeons made a flimsy nest on the ground under dad's tomato bush. The nest itself was a handful of twigs but the pair managed to hatch an egg. The baby pigeon was round and fluffy. I remember dad watching out the window to see the pigeon pecking at his prized tomato much to his chagrin.
This painting was completed Plein air on Daylesford's main street where a handful of gorgeous pigeon roam out the front of the historical council building. A few locals like to feed the pigeons and they also find crumbs under the bakery's seating a few doors down.
Seeing these pigeons unlocked this sweet childhood memory for me. It was painted on a cool spring afternoon. I used thick, buttery oil paint and bristle brushes. I believe the energy of the artist is imbued within the work and this piece brings back a lot of happy memories for me.
I do not make prints of my work. Every piece is one of a kind.
