Artwork Description

Waratahs In Pottery Vase was inspired the stunning display at the Botanical Gardens. I had spent the day wandering and painting in my art journal and have painted these blooms before in watercolour. Working on this little collection of Australian natives and this pottery vase I was excited to paint these waratahs, scaled down to for the vase but lacking none of their dynamic sculptural beauty.
Painting his little piece n my studio of peaceful seclusion, I was swept away into the gardens, to walking paths and tall trees, to wonder at the beauty found in cultivated gardens and wild bushland. I hope you find it too.

Painted in oils on 8x10inch canvas covered board, finished artwork sealed with Gamvar Gloss finish.
This piece is unframed

Artist Bio

Painting Original artworks in Oils, capturing the simple things in life, creating art that is reflective, peaceful, and nostalgic, from my Studio in South Gippsland, Victoria.

Though I have always sketched or drawn the catalyst to a full-time painting practice was a tree-change which found us lovingly renovating a 1900s farmhouse in rural South Gippsland.
We filled out home with treasures, made it welcoming and cosy, and established an acre of gardens to create a living canvas of inspiration. Our new life ignited my passion to paint. I dived right in to watercolour - the rich pigments, granulation, and translucency - immersed myself in professional paints, brushes and techniques; art classes, workshops, books and online tutorials; developing my skills with consistency; creating a strong professional Art practice. Then switching to oils for its rich colours, and buttery textures I continue to build a body of work exploring our connection to places and objects - Nostalgia - the joy and peace belonging brings.

Current bodies of work includes :
Small Works - Still Life painted from life and ...
Once Upon A Shelf - a nostalgic exploration of the connections we hold with the objects we keep
Daydreaming - landscapes and seascapes painted En Plein Air or from sketchbook workings taken while exploring wild and beautiful places

I hope you like the pieces I currently have listed with Bluethumb. To see new work-in-progress and their stories unfold visit my studio @Arkhillstudio
