This is a self portrait reflecting my mood during the lockdown period especially during winter. It was hard not to feel bored, frustrated, a little restless and just "Over It"! Using a monochrome palette helps to convey the mood with no colour to lift or add cheer. The eyes don't quite look at the viewer and have a glazed expression reflecting the boredom, their slight upwards view point almost reaching an eye roll, and the furrowed brow shows a hint of frustration. I think we can all relate to feeling this way at some point in our lives and I am glad I was able to convey the feelings in my drawing. The portrait was created using General's charcoal on Strathmore acid free toned gray 118gsm paper. Requires framing.

Artwork Description
Artist Bio
Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, I have always loved drawing and art. Art has always been something I have loved and come back to as a hobby as time and inspiration arose. I am mostly a self-taught artist and only started using the watercolour medium late 2016. Before this I mainly used graphite and coloured pencils for basic drawings. Mid 2017 I completed a short watercolour botanical art course that improved my ability and understanding of the medium and has been the stepping stone to my growth as an artist. I joined the Hobsons Bay Arts Society mid 2018 after participating in the 5 x 7 art prize and have really enjoyed and learnt a lot through workshops and demonstrations held by the society. Being a member of the society has also opened up new mediums to me, after doing a portrait course I now love using pastels and charcoal too. My subject matter is usually nature based as I am constantly inspired by the world around me.
