Artwork Description

I was inspired by an old photo I found of myself as a child holding a kitten looking quite possessive and I could imagine myself begging my parents to let me keep it. The original photo was colour and I felt the shift to black and white in my drawing better conveys the feeling. Charcoal on grey toned paper. Has been set with a fixative, requires framing.

Artist Bio

Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, I have always loved drawing and art. Art has always been something I have loved and come back to as a hobby as time and inspiration arose. I am mostly a self-taught artist and only started using the watercolour medium late 2016. Before this I mainly used graphite and coloured pencils for basic drawings. Mid 2017 I completed a short watercolour botanical art course that improved my ability and understanding of the medium and has been the stepping stone to my growth as an artist. I joined the Hobsons Bay Arts Society mid 2018 after participating in the 5 x 7 art prize and have really enjoyed and learnt a lot through workshops and demonstrations held by the society. Being a member of the society has also opened up new mediums to me, after doing a portrait course I now love using pastels and charcoal too. My subject matter is usually nature based as I am constantly inspired by the world around me.
