Sliding into Isolation

I was inspired to paint this from a Photo that my father took at the local beach. They are doing some work to build a large retaining wall. It seems every time that work is done at the beach and an excavator is used it ends up in the water some how. I always find this amusing and it never makes sense to me that they didn't see it coming! Apparently this time since the excavator was left up on the hill they thought it would be safe when the tide rose, of course the hill became unstable and it slipped in.
Watercolour paint and ink on 300gsm 100% cotton watercolour paper. Painted area A3 size (42cm x 29cm) paper size: 45.8cm x 31.8cm.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, I have always loved drawing and art. Art has always been something I have loved and come back to as a hobby as time and inspiration arose. I am mostly a self-taught artist and only started using the watercolour medium late 2016. Before this I mainly used graphite and coloured pencils for basic drawings. Mid 2017 I completed a short watercolour botanical art course that improved my ability and understanding of the medium and has been the stepping stone to my growth as an artist. I joined the Hobsons Bay Arts Society mid 2018 after participating in the 5 x 7 art prize and have really enjoyed and learnt a lot through workshops and demonstrations held by the society. Being a member of the society has also opened up new mediums to me, after doing a portrait course I now love using pastels and charcoal too. My subject matter is usually nature based as I am constantly inspired by the world around me.
