Snuggle Buddies

Panpastel, charcoal and Prismacolor Premier pencil on Canson A3 100gsm 50% cotton Archival Quality paper. Artwork inspired by a photograph I took myself while on a walk in a local wetland park. Fairy wrens are one of my favourite birds, they are just such cute little floof balls and the way the hop around just seems so joyful. I love it when I see them when I am out walking. I was very excited to see this pair huddled up together against the wind and cold while out for a walk and so happy I managed to catch the moment on my camera. I hope I have managed to do that moment justice and it can bring joy to others.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, I have always loved drawing and art. Art has always been something I have loved and come back to as a hobby as time and inspiration arose. I am mostly a self-taught artist and only started using the watercolour medium late 2016. Before this I mainly used graphite and coloured pencils for basic drawings. Mid 2017 I completed a short watercolour botanical art course that improved my ability and understanding of the medium and has been the stepping stone to my growth as an artist. I joined the Hobsons Bay Arts Society mid 2018 after participating in the 5 x 7 art prize and have really enjoyed and learnt a lot through workshops and demonstrations held by the society. Being a member of the society has also opened up new mediums to me, after doing a portrait course I now love using pastels and charcoal too. My subject matter is usually nature based as I am constantly inspired by the world around me.
