Whispers of Enchantment

I had such fun painting this contemporary abstract artwork! I began with some of my favorite colors and simply let one layer of color suggest the next. Mountains and streams are a favorite personal theme and somehow, that's what seems to have emerged.

This painting evokes an image of a cascading waterfall in a magical forest. Hints of hidden coves can be ‘seen’ deep in the background. The overall mood conveyed is one of mystery... it “whispers enchantment.”

Brushwork is dynamic and expressive, with varying intensities of color application creating depth and movement within the composition. Prominent strokes of deep blues and greens, white and black create a composition that suggests cascading water and light beams illuminating through darkness. Accents of pinks, teals, purples and browns create depth and contribute to the ethereal quality of the artwork.

From a practical standpoint, I love this painting's versatility. The flow of the image works well with contemporary, minimalist, or natural wood decor. It can blend into a modern or traditional room or be a primary focal point. As you can see in the ‘in room’ photos, this painting compliments a wide variety of color palettes.

The artwork is acrylic on paper, mounted on foam core in a simple black wood frame, behind plexiglass. It is wired and ready to hang. A glass-like surface contributes to the feel of water reflections. However, it could be removed to increase color vibrancy.

Reflections and Colors:
The act of painting is a dance of reflection and expression. Standing before the canvas, I think every painter tries to connect with a deeper sense of the subject, exploring what message to convey. What do my eyes see, what do I feel, what memories return? Impressions translate into the colors, shapes, media and techniques chosen. The composition emerges. There’s such magic in the way paint behaves—blending, bleeding, and whispering secrets to “try this color over here!” Every stroke surprises me, hopefully in a good way!

Nature’s Palette:
Nature is my muse. The vibrant colors of Gold Coast's Coral Sea, beaches and hinterlands and the Rocky Mountains call to me most. Water, rocks, trees and plants — the y all inspire me.
