Artwork Description

I had the name before I started the painting. I wanted to paint something that evoked heartfelt memories in the viewer and nothing is more memorable than "the proposal" made when love is so powerful and the whole future is ahead. How to find a subject to stir this memory. Immediately red roses and champagne came to mind as the way to express love on paper. I hope the proposal is the beginning of many many years of sharing a life with the one you love. Maybe the painting should be called "the Anniversary". Painted with 62 years of experiencing the bond of love.

I have always loved art, from my childhood with a box of 72 Derwent coloured pencils. Painting is such an all-consuming passion when you really love it. I try to capture my impressions of beautiful, peaceful places with interesting colours & patterns and yet want to be able to paint any subject. I dream in Paintings, always thinking about what I will paint next.

There is an artistic thread running through my family and I was always keen to learn to paint. I attended a drawing class with Brian Simmonds before taking watercolour classes with Larry Mitchell. Larry encouraged the class to form a club and hold an exhibition back in 2001. This was encouraging with sales to feed my enthusiasm. I have since been self-taught whilst attending workshops with various artists whenever possible. Since then, I have sold many paintings to collectors for their homes both here and overseas.

I am inspired by the beauty of nature and feel very privileged to see the world through the eyes of an artist. There is a painting around every corner. Perth has always been my home, but with lots of travelling in Australia and Overseas I have a camera ready to capture every moment. “En plein air” painting is my favourite if the opportunity is there. Sitting in the sand hills on a beautiful coastline, with my paints is my idea of heaven.

Watercolor is the perfect medium for me- instant and transportable and all my works are painted from my own photos or onsite.

I hope I can impart my joy of painting to the viewer.
