Artwork Description

The painting I created is of the "Tea Pot," a historic train from the Pichi Richi Railway, which holds deep personal significance for me. My father used to work as a fireman on this very train when he was young, and my family has roots in the area where the railway was built. This piece is a tribute to his memories and to all the workers and builders who dedicated their lives to creating and maintaining this iconic railway.

Artist Bio

Katrina is a conceptual artist now residing in the Flinders Ranges, after spending thirteen years living, studying, and working in the UK. During her time there, she participated in numerous exhibitions and artistic opportunities, including being shortlisted for the Aesthetica Creative Works Competition in 2011 and being published in the Aesthetica Creative Works Annual in 2012. She also exhibited at Tulipamwe, Namibia in 2015, and was involved in the 'Margin to Margin: Women Living on the Edges of the World' projects between 2016 and 2020.

Returning to South Australia and reconnecting with her first love, painting, Katrina now predominantly works with enamel, water-based mediums, and phosphorescent gels (glow-in-the-dark). She enjoys transforming any surface she encounters, whether it’s canvas, saw blades, shovels, crates, glassware, ceramic tiles, or even rabbit traps, into a canvas for her creative expression.

Her subject matter is diverse, ranging from seascapes and animals to machinery and portraits. Katrina’s work continues to explore themes of memory, environment, and the boundaries of form and material, constantly pushing the limits of traditional art spaces and surfaces.
