I am a visual artist living on Darkinjung country, on the NSW Central Coast. My earlier years concentrated on a career in the business sector which left limited time for painting. I managed to seek out private art tutors, where lessons could be incorporated in and around a full-time job and later raising a family. I did hold my first solo exhibition on the coast in 2005 and my work was on show in different outlets and cafes throughout the central coast area. With a move to Sydney, it was back to concentrating on work and family.
Now, and since 2020, I have been a full-time artist, devoting my days and evenings to producing a range of work with a view to having a future exhibition. We have recently moved from Yuin Country, the South Coast of NSW where I had amassed enormous amounts of sketches, paintings and photographs of an area where the motivation could not be more inspiring. From the country to the coastline, I was lucky to have been immersed in that beauty and I am still enjoying converting this into many pleasing memories on canvas.
Using acrylic & oil, oil and cold wax my art practise has become very experimental developing a style of my liking and building upon that every day. I love to use multi-layers, hand made tools and my most preferred palette knives. Different light sources mesmerise me, especially early morning and late afternoon when the shadows are cast over the landscape. However, I can find inspiration in the most insignificant places. It might even be a muddy puddle. My subjects are usually landscapes, seascapes and still life which can be representational or quasi-abstract. I have enjoyed complete freedom of choice over the years without locking myself into any rigid styles or genres, but leaving it open to what moves me on the day. Always excited about what comes to mind next.
I am well and truly on my artistic journey and welcome anyone who would like to follow along.
Thanks
Kay
