A New Path

Inspired by the everchanging colour and shape of the flowers and foliage of Evergreen Australian trees, It sometimes feels like I am in an alternative world, or on a different path. These trees can seem different each time I see them. Pale greens tending almost turquoise dominate, with sap green and deep indigo placed to give a sense of reality. Blossoms in flourescent pink and pale rose are marked by accents of gold. A space where the feeling of bringing nature inside might suit this slightly abstracted painting.

Kaye Devlin is from Western Australia’s Wheatbelt Region, and now lives at Perth. She took her first drawing lessons in the 1980’s, then continued studying art techniques and history in the 1990’s. Kaye studied for formal qualifications in Visual Art and Contemporary Craft including a diploma, with C Y O’Conner TAFE College at Northam WA from 2008 to 2012. Influenced in many ways by Goya, Turner, the Fauvists and Picasso and Australian artists Joy Hester, Brett Whiteley, Rover Thomas and Charles Blackman Kaye’ s works have evolved to be bordering on the abstract, yet representation is always present in them. She finds inspiration in early icons and images, ancient frescoes and mosaics, cave painting and rock art. Kaye’s works have been acquired by Rosewood Care Group Inc, Shire of Northam, Shire of Bruce Rock, RSM Australia Accountants, Water Corporation of Western Australia, Shire of Toodyay, CY O’Connor TAFE College and numerous collectors in Australia and overseas. While trained in all mediums Kaye especially likes to work in mixed media on paper. Mythology and folklore often feature in her paintings. Kaye has been described by art lecturers as an experimental artist, and this is how she is happiest when working on a piece. While the world around her provides the subject, Kaye responds by using colour and texture to create an image that depicts the real, yet shows that it can be an illusion of reality.
