From my earliest memories, art has been my constant companion. Even my infant world was filled with the act of painting and drawing—a passion that has continued to drive me ever since. As an adult, my initial works were created using oils on canvas, and I revelled in the tactile richness of the medium. However, as watercolours rose in popularity and commercial appeal, I was drawn to their luminous and unpredictable qualities. With no formal training or mentorship, I eagerly embraced the challenge, navigating the complexities of this delicate medium. Through trial, error, research and persistent experimentation, I developed a deep understanding of how to harness the unique properties of water-colour to express my vision.
Everything changed when I discovered acrylics. They allowed me to paint in the style of oils without the long drying times and emulate watercolours without the challenges of pigment control.
My work gained early recognition when the Launceston Country Club Casino constantly hosted a curated exhibition of my pieces, leading to regular sales and commissions, particularly from interstate visitors. This early success ignited a steady stream of word-of-mouth referrals, and while I have exhibited in various galleries, commissions remain the core of my practice.
At the heart of my work is an ongoing journey of exploration and connection to the materials I use, my subjects, and the people who commission my pieces. I strive to create work that speaks to the emotions and stories of those who view it, fostering a sense of intimacy between my art and its audience.
Over the past few years, I have focused on my own chosen subject, by showcasing Tasmanian wildlife and flora, highlighting their beauty and the importance of their protection.
