Artwork Description

Many artists have given their interpretations of the Australian bush ranger, Ned Kelly. Sidney Nolan’s 1946–47 Ned Kelly series is one of the greatest sequences of Australian paintings of the twentieth century and he remains one of my favourite Australian artists.
My interpretation is loosely based on the infamous incident at Stringybark Creek where the Kelly Gang ambushed four Victorian Police Officers in 1878. I have contrasted Ned, in his hand made armour, hiding amongst the colourful saplings with gun in hand.
Framed – White frame 97 x 67 cm.

Artist Bio

Keith is an award winning artist who finds endless inspiration in the intricate beauty of nature, captivated by its vivid colors, rich diversity, and delicate fragility.

Growing up in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, he cherished countless days by the beach and harbor, immersing himself in the sensory delights of this wonderful marine environment. Family trips to various coastal retreats introduced him to a slower, gentler rhythm of life, where the hues of the sea, forests, and farmlands etched themselves into his memory.

Days exploring the tranquil lakes, rivers and their environs deepened his appreciation for the Australian landscape including farmland and forest mirrored in the glassy waters of the south coast of NSW. Visits to his uncle’s farm in Tenterfield further shaped his artistic vision, revealing the resilience and vulnerability of rolling green fields, so easily marked by drought or bushfire.

Now settled in the coastal haven of Port Stephens, Keith embraces retirement by dedicating time to his passion for art.

His works, whether rooted in reality or woven from imagination, spring from a lifetime of experiences, emotions, and the vibrant palette that resides within him.

Through his art, Keith invites others to pause, observe, and discover the same vivid beauty that surrounds them every day.
