Artwork Description

This work shows subtle nuances of close up facial features, when combined with strong contrasts of monochrome to pare back the surrounding noise. This silent and moody piece captures a pensive, thoughtful pose of a woman with striking eyes.
This series of works look wonderful when grouped together.

Artist Bio

Hello! Thanks for stopping in.
My name is Kellie and I am an artist and illustrator, with an ever-evolving graphic-influenced style. When I finished school (ahem... in the '90's....) I was told that I would never make any money as an artist, and so, like many other creatives, funnelled myself into a Graphic Design course at university along with 50 million others. Many a year was spent filling a brief for others, always dabbling in my own art on the side. I also have Interior Design qualifications (and worked in the industry for a long time, but always felt more excited by the artworks in the spaces), but it never set my soul on fire like the expressiveness nature of painting does. When I had my children, something in me ignited and I have been actively pursuing it ever since. My boys would often sit across the desk painting with me.
My interests are botanical and portraiture - both illustrative and realism (I have painted and drawn a load of pet portraits in my time). I like the study of shadows and expression and negative spaces in my work. I am a graphic novel kid so I love the bold, expressive, emotive qualities of faces, and that shows in my work. I hope to loosen up my style in the future.....
The influences I have are Poh Ling Yeow, Annette Bezor, Belinda Eaton and many other clever, unique and inspirational people.
