These works were conceptualised while out in far northwest Queensland on the banks of the Einasleigh River.
While sitting around a campfire telling stories I felt an eerie yet beautiful feeling that we were not alone, souls with stories of days past lingered here. Many have sat in the same place as we had, by the glow of the flickering flame, reflecting, in awe of the beauty and the silence.
For these images I took inspiration from the Award Winning Australian Bush Poet Terry Piggotts beautifully penned poem 'Lady of the Lakes'.
Terry wrote this poem in the memory of a ‘Lady’, (A gold fossicker), who was extremely accomplished in the way of fossicking back in the Gold Rush days here in Australia. She was known to all, as The Lady of the Lakes, a name she gained from her choice of places to fossick for gold, always on or around Lakes, including the great Salt Lakes. She was a strong formidable woman, and a trailblazer for other women fossickers of that time.
She perished in search of her fortune, but her legacy lives on in Australian Bush History, I wanted to honour her and all those who went after her in these images.
