I am a Canberra based artist living in Michelago, NSW.
I'm a self taught painter drawn principally to oils. Like many oil painters (I suspect) I love everything about the act of painting - the smell, texture, colour, the feel of the canvas and the sound the brushes make.
For a long time I focused on portraiture but have recently been working on interior scenes and landscape. We have a big beautiful sky in this country with land that rises and falls as far as the eye can see.
I work in a painterly style and find inspiration in the work of many classical and modern painters. It's so very hard to pick only a few but I'd have to say (how could one not) Monet for his landscapes and use of colour - pale pinks and deep greens - I could look all day. What genius. Then it's Australian artists all the way.
I work hard to keep my technique loose and free flowing while retaining sufficient structure to support the work. You need a bit of chaos in order to keep a scene loose enough to evoke life and movement. Easier said than done.
I try to learn from all that I see and, in understanding the work of others, to create a style, a perspective and an insight that is uniquely my own.
You can see more of my work, and some family pieces at www.kelly-casey.com.
