The Golden Girls of Kangaroo Point III

I felt compelled to honour the striking pair of old Queenslander homes that stood side by side on Main Street, opposite the Story Bridge Pub. Their highly recognisable rusty iron roofs called to me to be painted!
I was aware that the homes might not survive for much longer, as the inner city suburb of Kangaroo Point was undergoing rapid redevelopment with high rise apartments rising up on most corners.
And I was correct. 2 years later both homes were removed from their stumps and taken away. A sad day indeed.
I continue to be interested in ‘capturing our places’, in telling important stories of character filled buildings, and in highlighting how they contrast to new architecture or structures.
