Artwork Description

The art work titled “Ticky Tacky Little Boxes” was based on an old folk song from 1962. The song is a political satire about the development of suburbia and associated conformist middle-class attitudes. It refers to suburban tract housing as "little boxes" of different colors "all made out of ticky-tacky", and which "all look just the same.” The painting is full of collaged Barbie and Ken dolls in different housing situations. These often idolised perfect charachters are displayed as Single Mums, Homosexual, drug and alcohol dependant, unmarried, divorced, obesity problems and all otehr gamets of real life suburbia.
