Kelly Taylor is an accomplished artist based in South Australia whose paintings have been widely exhibited nationally. In addition, her art is featured in publications such as Vogue Living, Royal Flying Doctors, Air Doctor Magazine, Disney Australia, The National Indigenous Times & 7News. Taylor's powerful works are centered around narratives about her personal experiences living on country, hunting and gathering traditional foods with her family.
“The stories behind each painting are about my childhood days where my family hunted and gathered traditional foods, playing and rolling down beautiful red sand hills of Ernabella [now Pukatja], Fregon [now Kaltjiti], Ayers Rock [now Uluru], Indulkana, Alice Springs, Coober Pedy and Port Augusta, where we would camp surrounded by trees, wild desert flowers, sand hills and plenty of water holes to swim in and sit by the campfire on country and listening to our nanas and other elders telling stories.
Kelly's favourite piece she loves is Blue Rain, a vibrant blue piece the artist says “reminds me a lot of when we lived on my grandmother’s homeland (WinduWindu) on the APY (Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara) lands, there were days where we would just sit and stare at the Big Blue Rain.”
Kelly is also featured in a book called Aboriginal Art & the Dreaming, If you want to read more about her and her grandmother Millie Taylor (dec), you can find her book titled Aboriginal Artists in South Australia you can find them through libraries throughout Australia.
