Artist Bio

A Sydney born contemporary artist. I work in Series investigating a particular idea or theme. Consequently my work is diverse and always evolving. Due to the varying themes I use different medias to articulate my ideas. They including ink, acrylic, oil, pastel, rust and wax. Exploring texture and a diverse range of subject matter, both abstraction and reality - aiming to create a physiological response.

My work has separate aesthetics - one based loosely on realism and the other is completely abstract. I compare it to not wanting to wear the same clothes everyday. Although different in application and voice - they are all 'me'. Water and Topography are a recurring theme within my practice. The use of colour is intrinsic in my work. Its intensity and interactive properties are fundamental to my practice.

The ‘Alchemy’ series was created to push the boundaries of transparency and opacity. It was also a personal reaction to Cancer and my take on trying to capture its essence. Cancer under the microscope is beautiful, intriguing and mesmerising - everything it is not to anyone diagnosed with it. My intention was like the earliest alchemist of mixing things to create ‘gold’, an attempt to make something beautiful from something that is not.

The abstract work is purely about Colour and personal engagement. Colour to me has a language that voices an emotion. Mixing different colours together and harmony or discord is conveyed and a story is told. I like to work in an experimental way with colour. Using a number of methodologies such as Yupo paper and ink, encaustic, oil and acrylics on canvas.

A residency in Provence 2019 motivated a whole new body of work - 'Provence'. That was released in February 2021 at a solo exhibition in Sydney.

The next series was as a response to a third trip to Hawaii called 'Aloha' was released in June 2023 in the Affordable Art Fair in Sydney.

Stay tuned as I want to continue to hone, explore and expand my practice.
