In this vibrant creation, I've poured my soul into capturing the indomitable spirit of resilience and fearlessness. My splashes of acrylic and bursts of spray paint meld in a dance of expressionism and pop art, giving life to a figure that stands as a symbol of empowerment. I draw inspiration for my work from my own life and popular culture. When I came across this image I was struck by all the backlit hair, and the reflections from the eyebrows up. I painted the resemblance of a "superwoman" emblem on her chest as overall I wanted the painting to inspire strength and presence. Named after one of my favourite songs, Alicia Key's "Superwoman", I painted this as an empowerment piece and reminder that better days are coming.

The canvas is covered in Japanese Rice Paper to give a lovely texture that is akin to the movement on the surface of water. And, as with most of my paintings, I have painted in layers. The background using action painting (expressionistic) techniques - pouring, dripping, splashing paint and involving my body in the painting process rather than just the paint brush. The figure was created using contemporary art pop art techniques and stencils, and a further layer of hand painting brought the foreground and background together. My palette is colourful and uses strong contrasts to capture a mood of strength.
