Out From the Deep

"Out From the Deep" is my tribute to the soul’s journey - a textured, colourful lotus rising from darkness. Inspired by the Enigma song, the piece resonates with lyrics that speak to growth and purpose:

“We came out from the deep
To learn to love, to learn how to live
We came out from the deep
To avoid the mistake we made
That's why we are here!

We came out from the deep
To help and understand, but not to kill
It takes many lives till we succeed
To clear the debts of many hundreds years
That's why we are here!”

Each petal embodies resilience and renewal. I chose deep purples and rich layered hues to reflect the depths we emerge from, while the lotus symbolises transformation through compassion and understanding.

The lyrics guided my brush, expressing my belief that, like the lotus, we are here to rise above, to love, forgive, and contribute something meaningful. The colours, textures, and layers capture the soul’s evolution, reminding us that clearing the debts of history may take many lifetimes. "That's why we are here!"

I'm Kerry Sandhu, a self-taught acrylic and mixed-media artist with a passion for bringing vibrant, heartfelt art to life. Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, I made a big move to Darwin in January 2020—a change that opened my world to new colours, stories, and inspiration.

My creativity is fuelled by the world around me: nature, spirit, life, music, and lyrics all weave their way into my artistic process. Much like my eclectic taste in music, my style is ever-evolving—bold, expressive, and deeply intuitive.

I create ‘inspired art from the heart,’ spanning a wide range of themes. Each piece captures a moment of emotion, a spark of spirit, or a story waiting to be told. My work celebrates vibrant colour, texture, and the beauty found in life’s smallest details, with each brushstroke reflecting my inner world.

Painting is not just what I do—it’s who I am. Through my art, I aim to touch hearts, inspire minds, ignite passions, and evoke deep emotion.

Every ANZAC Day (since 2016), I paint an original artwork to honour the fallen service men, women and animals, acknowledging their courage, sacrifice, and the ultimate price paid for our freedom.
