Artwork Description

Painted with expressive palette knife strokes, this painting captures a tender moment between a young Vietnamese girl and the child she carries on her back, their connection etched in warmth, colour, and tradition. Dressed in richly textured traditional clothing of the mountainous area of Sapa, she stands against a neutral, impasto background that allows the vibrant details of her garments to shine. The painting honours the strength and beauty of mountain communities, where generations are woven together not only by blood, but by shared labour, heritage, and love. With a smile that speaks of resilience and pride, the young girl becomes both a bearer of the past and a guardian of the future.

Artist Bio

Nature has always fascinated me, and I have felt a deep connection to it for as long as I can remember. I am particularly inspired by the way light transforms landscapes and seascapes - turning familiar scenes into something fleeting, luminous and almost magical. These ever-changing moments captivate me, and through my work I hope to share that sense of wonder with the viewer.

I am a part-time artist based in the Adelaide Hills, painting from my home studio whenever time allows. My art reflects the profound happiness I feel in the act of creation. Working primarily in oils, I strive to capture nature’s harmony and beauty in realistic scenes that still reveal the artist’s hand - brushstrokes, layered textures, and subtle marks that invite closer inspection.
I am drawn to the richness and versatility of oil paint, often using both brushes and palette knives to build depth and character. While grounded in traditional techniques, I remain curious and open to experimentation, continually exploring new approaches, mediums, and inspirations.

Above all, I hope my paintings offer more than a visual experience — I hope they invite the viewer into a moment of stillness, connection, and joy.
