Artwork Description

Oil on canvas paper

Radiant captures the striking beauty and poise of an African woman holding a traditional hand fan. Her deep, glowing skin reflects a soft, warm light, enhancing her natural grace and inner vibrancy. The fan, rests gently in her hand, as if she has paused in a moment of reflection.
The woman’s expression is calm and serene, her eyes softly closed. Dressed in traditional attire with bold, earthy tones, her clothing complements the vivid turquoise colour of the fan, creating a harmonious balance between culture and elegance. Her headscarf is wrapped neatly, its folds catching the light and adding texture and movement to the composition.
The background is minimal in warm hues, allowing her radiant presence to be the focal point. The fan serves as a symbol of both practicality and cultural heritage, adding a layer of storytelling to the portrait. The painting invites the viewer to appreciate not only the woman’s beauty but also the cultural richness and grace she embodies.

Artist Bio

Nature has always fascinated me, and I have felt a deep connection to it for as long as I can remember. I am particularly inspired by the way light transforms landscapes and seascapes - turning familiar scenes into something fleeting, luminous and almost magical. These ever-changing moments captivate me, and through my work I hope to share that sense of wonder with the viewer.

I am a part-time artist based in the Adelaide Hills, painting from my home studio whenever time allows. My art reflects the profound happiness I feel in the act of creation. Working primarily in oils, I strive to capture nature’s harmony and beauty in realistic scenes that still reveal the artist’s hand - brushstrokes, layered textures, and subtle marks that invite closer inspection.
I am drawn to the richness and versatility of oil paint, often using both brushes and palette knives to build depth and character. While grounded in traditional techniques, I remain curious and open to experimentation, continually exploring new approaches, mediums, and inspirations.

Above all, I hope my paintings offer more than a visual experience — I hope they invite the viewer into a moment of stillness, connection, and joy.
