Artwork Description

Reflective is a tender portrait of an African woman, dressed in a flowing yellow dress, cradling a baby in her arms. The woman’s expression is serene yet contemplative, as though deep in thought, her eyes gazing softly into the distance. Her rich, dark skin contrasts beautifully with the vibrant yellow of her dress, which symbolizes warmth, vitality, and a nurturing spirit. The soft folds of the fabric flow gracefully, echoing her calm and poised demeanour.
In her arms, the baby rests peacefully, representing the bond between mother and child. The woman’s hand gently supports the infant, her posture protective yet relaxed, capturing the quiet strength of motherhood. The light in the painting is warm and soft, highlighting the gentle curves of her face, casting a golden glow across both figures.
The background is kept subtle and blurred, allowing the focus to remain on the intimate connection between mother and child. The painting speaks to themes of reflection, love, and the quiet moments of introspection that come with nurturing new life. Reflective invites the viewer to experience the depth of emotion in this peaceful yet powerful scene, celebrating the grace and strength of motherhood.

Artist Bio

Nature has always fascinated me, and I have felt a deep connection to it for as long as I can remember. I am particularly inspired by the way light transforms landscapes and seascapes - turning familiar scenes into something fleeting, luminous and almost magical. These ever-changing moments captivate me, and through my work I hope to share that sense of wonder with the viewer.

I am a part-time artist based in the Adelaide Hills, painting from my home studio whenever time allows. My art reflects the profound happiness I feel in the act of creation. Working primarily in oils, I strive to capture nature’s harmony and beauty in realistic scenes that still reveal the artist’s hand - brushstrokes, layered textures, and subtle marks that invite closer inspection.
I am drawn to the richness and versatility of oil paint, often using both brushes and palette knives to build depth and character. While grounded in traditional techniques, I remain curious and open to experimentation, continually exploring new approaches, mediums, and inspirations.

Above all, I hope my paintings offer more than a visual experience — I hope they invite the viewer into a moment of stillness, connection, and joy.
