Artwork Description

Steps of Stillness captures a moment of quiet as two monks move through the serene grounds of a northern Thai temple. Draped in saffron robes, their figures offer a gentle contrast to the weathered stone, golden ornamentation, and shaded walkways. Primarily painted with palette knives, the luscious oil paint adds depth and texture—inviting the viewer to feel the stillness as much as see it. The work evokes a rhythm of mindfulness, where every step is both a movement and a meditation. It is a tribute to the spiritual traditions of northern Thailand, and to the peace that lingers in places where silence is sacred.

Artist Bio

Nature has always fascinated me, and I have felt a deep connection to it for as long as I can remember. I am particularly inspired by the way light transforms landscapes and seascapes - turning familiar scenes into something fleeting, luminous and almost magical. These ever-changing moments captivate me, and through my work I hope to share that sense of wonder with the viewer.

I am a part-time artist based in the Adelaide Hills, painting from my home studio whenever time allows. My art reflects the profound happiness I feel in the act of creation. Working primarily in oils, I strive to capture nature’s harmony and beauty in realistic scenes that still reveal the artist’s hand - brushstrokes, layered textures, and subtle marks that invite closer inspection.
I am drawn to the richness and versatility of oil paint, often using both brushes and palette knives to build depth and character. While grounded in traditional techniques, I remain curious and open to experimentation, continually exploring new approaches, mediums, and inspirations.

Above all, I hope my paintings offer more than a visual experience — I hope they invite the viewer into a moment of stillness, connection, and joy.
