Chen Shihao, known as Qiu Ye, the master of Xiyin Xuan, male, born in 1942, is originally from the People's Republic of China and currently resides in Sydney, Australia. He is a senior calligrapher, photographer, and a China National First-level Artist. In 2006, he was awarded the China International Art Lifetime Achievement Award. His works were included in the "2006 China Painting and Calligraphy Yearbook" published by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Publishing House. He is a senior member of the China Calligraphers Association and a director of the China Calligraphy and Painting Artists Creation Center. He has won gold, silver, and bronze awards and exhibited in major painting and calligraphy exhibitions both domestically and internationally. He is currently an Academician of the Australia Academy of Painting and the Yan Huang Academy of Painting.
Mr. Chen studied under renowned artists such as Lu Su, Chen Yonghua, Zeng Jingchong, Huang Zihou, Chen Qiuming, and others in Guangdong, learning art for four years. He also benefited from guidance by masters and experts such as Qin Esheng, Mai Huasan, Shang Chengzuo, Huang Wenkuan, Xie Jiayin, Chen Zhenlian, Cao Baolin, and Mang Yuan. His calligraphy encompasses various styles, including seal script, clerical script, regular script, running script, and cursive script, excelling particularly in running, cursive, and clerical scripts. His calligraphy draws inspiration from ancient styles, incorporating diverse influences, and represents a fusion of many schools. His left-handed calligraphy is distinctive, characterized by an antique and vigorous style, blending softness with strength and featuring a somewhat strong and spicy taste, standing apart from the conventional right-handed calligraphy.
